Relaxed wedding photography at The Hundred House Hotel
The Hundred House Hotel is one of those wedding venues that immediately feels relaxed.

Not in a lazy or disorganised way. Quite the opposite.

The whole venue feels properly invested in weddings. You can tell they care about the experience couples actually have there.

That sounds obvious, but it really is not.

There are plenty of hotel wedding venues where you can tell very little has changed in years. Weddings feel like something they do on the side rather than something they genuinely focus on.

That has never been my experience at The Hundred House.

Over the last few years especially, they’ve spent a huge amount improving the venue. The newer orangery and annex space completely changed the flow of weddings there for the better. Drinks receptions used to happen in a marquee. Now everything feels far more connected, modern and comfortable without losing the relaxed atmosphere that made the venue popular in the first place.

It works brilliantly for weddings that feel natural and easy-going rather than overly formal.

Which, honestly, is exactly the sort of weddings I tend to photograph there.

A venue that naturally suits relaxed weddings
Every wedding venue has its own atmosphere.

Some feel formal and structured.
Some feel very traditional.

The Hundred House tends to attract couples who simply want to enjoy the day.

Most of the weddings I’ve photographed there have been very laid-back. Couples usually want good photographs without turning the entire wedding into a photoshoot. A quick wander for portraits, a handful of family photographs, and then straight back to enjoying the day with everyone else.

That fits naturally with the way I photograph weddings.

Nothing forced.
Nothing overly staged.
Just honest moments as they happen.

The layout of the venue helps massively with that as well.

There’s enough space for guests to spread out and properly relax, but everything still feels connected. You’re never dragging people halfway across a country estate for photographs. Family groups are easy to organise quickly and couples can slip away for ten minutes of portraits without disappearing from the wedding for an hour.

That balance is surprisingly rare.
Photographing weddings at The Hundred House
One of the reasons I enjoy photographing weddings there so much is the sheer variety of spaces across the venue.

The herb garden is probably my favourite area for couples portraits. It’s quiet, tucked away slightly from the main flow of the day and works beautifully in the evening light.

The venue itself also photographs really well.

The side of the hotel is often where I’ll photograph family groups because there are usually floral displays, hanging baskets and greenery everywhere. Ultimately group photographs are about the people in them rather than the background, but you still want the setting to feel considered. Nobody wants family photographs in front of a skip.

The newer orangery and annex space has also improved the flow of the venue massively.

The natural light in there is beautiful during drinks receptions and because guests can move easily between indoor and outdoor spaces, it creates loads of opportunities for natural candid moments throughout the afternoon.

From a documentary photography perspective, it’s an easy venue to work in because there’s always somewhere to observe quietly without interrupting what’s happening.
The flow of weddings at The Hundred House
Most weddings there flow naturally because everything is close together.

Prep normally leads into the ceremony in the wedding barn, followed by drinks receptions in the newer orangery and annex spaces before guests head back into the barn later in the day.

The venue feels connected without becoming repetitive.

You’re moving between different spaces throughout the wedding, which keeps the day feeling fresh visually without constantly moving guests around.

That also helps massively from a photography perspective because every part of the day has a slightly different atmosphere and backdrop.

The staff make a huge difference
I’ve photographed weddings at The Hundred House for years now and it’s actually one of the only venues where I’m a recommended supplier.

That’s rare for me.

I’ve never wanted to become one of those photographers who spends every weekend repeating the exact same wedding at the exact same venue over and over again.

But The Hundred House is different.

The staff are genuinely brilliant to work with.

Everything runs smoothly without the day feeling overly structured or rushed. They keep things organised while still allowing couples to relax into the day properly.

And because I know the venue well and know most of the staff there now, weddings always feel calm and easy to work in.

That benefits couples far more than people probably realise.
A Dog Friendly Wedding Venue
One thing couples often love about The Hundred House Hotel is that it is a genuinely dog friendly wedding venue.

I have photographed quite a few weddings there where dogs have been part of the day in some way. Sometimes they are there for the ceremony, sometimes for the drinks reception, and sometimes they just appear for a few portraits before heading home for the evening.

Because the venue has plenty of outdoor space, relaxed gardens and room for guests to spread out, it works really well if you want your dog involved without the day feeling stressful.

The herb garden area in particular is great for relaxed photographs with dogs because it is quieter and slightly tucked away from the main flow of the wedding.

It also suits the overall atmosphere of the venue. Weddings at The Hundred House Hotel tend to feel quite laid back and personal, so having your dog there never feels out of place.

If you are planning to include your dog in your wedding day, it is always worth speaking to the venue directly about the latest arrangements and any practical details beforehand.

If you are considering including your dog in your wedding day, I’ve also written a blog on whether you should have your dog at your wedding, including some of the practical things couples often forget to think about before the day itself.

Does The Hundred House work well for winter weddings?
Yes, absolutely.

I’ve photographed weddings there all year round and the newer annex and orangery spaces have made winter weddings much easier than they used to be.

The natural light indoors is genuinely good, which makes a huge difference during darker afternoons.

And because guests can still move comfortably between spaces without everything relying on outdoor areas, the venue still works really well even during bad weather.
Things worth knowing before booking The Hundred House Hotel
One thing couples should know is that The Hundred House is not an exclusive-use wedding venue.

You’ll still have dedicated wedding spaces throughout the day, but there may still be members of the public elsewhere on site using the hotel or restaurant.

For most couples, that is not an issue at all. But it’s worth being aware of while comparing venues.

The other thing worth mentioning is evening capacity.

For most weddings, the venue works beautifully. But if you’re planning a very large evening reception approaching the upper guest limits, the evening barn can begin to feel quite full once everybody is inside.

Especially during summer weddings.

Because of nearby neighbours, the doors often stay closed during evening celebrations, so the space can get warm fairly quickly once the dance floor fills up.

Honestly though, that’s one of the only real downsides I’ve experienced there.
A wedding I’ll never forget at The Hundred House
One of my favourite moments I’ve ever photographed there involved a groom called Mark.

He and his husband were messing around on the swing in the herb garden during portraits when Mark suddenly fell backwards straight off it.

I managed to capture the exact moment it happened.

Years later they still mention that photograph whenever I see them again at weddings.

That’s one of the reasons I enjoy photographing weddings at The Hundred House so much. It naturally lends itself to moments that feel genuine rather than staged.

Those are always the photographs people care about most years later.
