Danielle & Sam
Moody brickwork, massive windows, emotional vows and one of the liveliest dancefloors I’ve seen. Danielle & Sam’s wedding at The West Mill was a masterclass in doing it your way—and having a cracking time doing it.
I LOVE WHAT I DO — THAT’S NOT A CLICHE
Danielle & Sam at the West Mill - Darley Abbey, Derby
The morning kicked off over at The Mill Cottage—a cosy, tucked-away little spot just a stone’s throw from the venue. It had that perfect “quiet before the storm” vibe, and Danielle was surrounded by her favourite people, mugs of tea, and the hum of excitement slowly building.

Makeup was handled by the seriously talented Lauren Dearden, who worked her magic like a total pro—flawless skin, calm energy, and not a single fluster in sight. A bridal dream, basically.

Later on, the party moved into The West Mill’s bridal suite where the pace picked up a bit, the prosecco came out, and it all started to feel very real. Danielle stepped into her dress and, well… it was a bit of a moment. Cool, composed, and looking every bit the knockout she is.
While Danielle was getting pampered upstairs, Sam and the lads were suiting up on the ground floor—a calm, casual start… until someone suggested a round of shots to “steady the nerves.”

Classic move. Except, Sam? Yeah… not a fan.

There’s a cracking photo of him mid-gag that tells you everything you need to know—100% regret, 0% composure. A reminder that not all pre-ceremony rituals are a good idea, but they do make for brilliant photos.

The rest of the prep was full of laughs, final tweaks, and a few deep breaths as the reality of the day started to kick in.
The West Mill’s ceremony space is all raw beauty and real atmosphere—none of your beige hotel wallpaper here. When Danielle walked in, Sam’s composure cracked just enough to remind us all this wasn’t just a show—it was the real deal.

They said their vows surrounded by friends, family, and history-soaked walls. Honest, emotional, and totally them. No performative fluff, just two people saying, “You’re it.”
A brilliant review — — from a brilliant pair.
“Fantastic photos, James was friendly and so professional. I love the natural finish of our photos. I didn't even know he was there for so many of the candid photos and the aerial perspective for the confetti photos was so unique and loved it! Thank you so much for capturing our special day so well!.”
After the confetti storm (and a tactical prosecco top-up), we took advantage of the building’s ridiculously photogenic corners—rusty stairwells, riverside views, you name it.

Danielle & Sam didn’t need direction. They just were. A cheeky kiss here, a bit of banter there, and one beautiful moment where they just stood in silence, soaking it all in.

No stiff posing, no “chin down, eyes up” nonsense—just two people wildly into each other, being themselves. The best kind of couple to photograph.
The reception kicked off upstairs—same industrial cool, but with soft lighting, killer styling, and the kind of vibe that says, “Yeah, we know this is a bit of a flex.”

Speeches had the perfect mix: laughter, tears, and just enough roast material to keep everyone on their toes. Then came the dancing. First dance was smooth, romantic—then the playlist dropped and the floor erupted. Aunties, groomsmen, someone who definitely wasn’t wearing those heels at the start of the night—it was glorious.

A thank you — from me
Danielle & Sam—thank you for letting me be part of such a cracking day. You brought the laughs, the love, and a whole load of brilliant moments that were an absolute joy to capture.

If you’re planning your wedding and want someone to document the day without turning it into a photoshoot, give me a shout. I’d love to hear what you’ve got planned.

OTHER STORIES — — WHAT PEOPLE SAY
“James was a brilliant photographer at our wedding! He made us both feel so at ease during the day and as a couple who don’t like to have our photos taken… James did a tremendous job at capturing our fabulous day and directing us on what to do to get the best shots. Even our guests said that they didn’t notice James taking photos of them and we didn’t feel like we spent our whole day taking photos. We are so happy with the end results of our photo gallery and will cherish our photos forever! Would definitely recommend.”
“There aren’t enough good things I can say about James. He was amazing from the word go.”
“James was the perfect photographer for us. We were after a relaxed vibe, no intrusive stuffy posing for formal photos and this is exactly what he delivered. 3”
